"Mandarin," he replies cheerfully when Jon pops up, resting an elbow on the shelf. "Ye Zun's giving me lessons too, but obviously I'm gonna keep studying it on my downtime. Figured it might help me connect with Shen Wei better."
"Well, I wish you well of it, though of course I'm not much for languages," he says cheerfully in return as he takes a seat. "It makes sense, though. There's always certain amounts of psychology and sociology available in one's native language that doesn't directly translate."
A pause.
"Given I know you two get along well enough, I proposed a switch to Lark the other day: let him take my spot in the library and I'll take over the dinner shift in the dining hall. He took me up on it. That's... not a problem, is it?"

"Yeah, of course. I assume he'll be taking your office, then, but-" He gives Jon an open, quizzical look. "Why?"

"...clearly, I can't stand my coworkers and I've never read a book in my life."
He huffs a laugh before Tim can even dignify that.
"I... thought it might not be a bad idea to have a chance of pace. And Lark's been roughing it on the dinner shift for ages."
